But even beasts can be beautiful, sliding on the grass on silver slime, providing feed for blackbird and thrush babies. Dandelion clocks attract the goldfinches, flea beetles – the bullfinches. The starling made an appearance again but avoided visiting the chimney this time. A tiny bird visits the garden regularly but still cannot identify it. All around the garden, parent birds are feeding young, filling the garden with song.

Food?The wren babies are growing rapidly, busy parents flit back and forth beaks filled with insects. After yesterdays storm the garden is blanketed in leaves and petals, twigs torn by the ruthless wind. The temperature in the greenhouse, minus its door, had dropped to 3º C overnight but we are promised warmer weather soon…
