Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add colour to my sunset sky.

    Rabindranath Tagore, Stray Birds

A warm October day; driving home we are met by an almost constant stream of traffic, people returning from “a wee drive” along the coast. The warm sun drawing people outdoors, flying kites, walking dogs, strolling along the seafront. Making the most of the sun, topping up vitamin D just in case it should forget to shine again as we move deeper into autumn.

The girls gather at the back door, a little earlier each evening, waiting for supper. We climb the hill to the pen and scatter their corn, enthusiastically gobbled up, they lazily graze, refusing to go to roost while even a small vestige of light hangs in the Western sky. Day finally yields to night well after seven o’clock. The new light from the light house shining white brightly over the firth. First stars pierce the dark sky. The fire lit, fragrant smell of wood smoke fills the air – home…
