Mouse Mischief!

Stolen from winter hiding,

strewn wings,

mouse confectionery

I had no idea that hibernation was such a dangerous pursuit or that the butterflies had taken refuge in the shed until winged remnants littered the floor. Mice mischief; being such good climbers they have plucked the butterflies from their hiding place; having no nutritional value, the wings are abandoned to the floor.

Last year was a good year for butterflies as their numbers recovered from the previous dismal summer. The warm wet, winter means they are waking early with no food source. With few cold spells, pathogens and fungal disease will take their toll too. Rescued from the shed this one has joined the porch refugees.
