A cool grey morning; sea and sky meld into one. The robins sing from their chosen trees, from the garden a wide variety of toadstools appear over night. The tattie harvest has begun, trailer loads pass the cottage.  I congratulate myself on my own harvest (knowing all I did was put them in the ground), beautiful, cream and pink potatoes! Now I’m preparing the soil for new fruit trees and digging for the new hedgerows. While working I’m still surprised to find so much wildlife in the garden. The toad didn’t wait for me to get my camera, even though he sat watching me for five minutes….

I find myself humming “Simple Gifts” and feeling thankful for small joyous things. My favourite version is by Alison Krauss and Yo-Yo Ma – love it’s haunting simplicity….
