“Summer and  winter, summer and winter with them” were my Grandmother’s wise words, it may have related to marriage but it equally applies to a new garden. Last year time was spent trying to bring some order to the weed patch but this year it’s about discovering what survived beneath the weeds.  A ripple of roses, found in the hedges and the garden which were totally unnoticed last year but then it rained  almost all year.  This year we are officially having a heat wave. I’m hoping that next year there will be enough flowers to make rose syrups or rose petal jam.
